26-year-old dancer Gina Elise came up with the Pin Ups for Vets Calendar two years ago; the 2009 edition is now set to break all sales records.
“A few years ago, I started seeing news articles about under-funded Veterans’ healthcare programs. Then, there were stories about older Veterans who lay in bed day after day, never receiving any visitors. Reports started surfacing on TV about the severe injuries sustained by our troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.” Says Gina Elise on the homepage of the Calendar’s website, pinupsforvets.com.
“The more I heard about the uphill battles of our Wounded Warriors, the more convinced I was of the need to produce a project that would bring in funds to support all of our hospitalized Veterans.”
According to Gina her Pin Ups for Vets Calendar 2007 was a great success. “Thanks to the wonderful “Pin-Ups for Vets” supporters who purchased hundreds of calendars, the 2007 and 2008 fund raisers were each a great success.”
“Pin-Ups for Vets” has raised $20,000, with proceeds from 2007 going to Loma Linda VA Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif., and proceeds from 2008 awarded to San Diego’s Naval Medical Center.
Pin Ups for Vets 2009 is set to break all sales records now that Gina Elise’s project has been broadcast nationally by Fox News.
“I‘ve always been a huge fan of the pin-up era, so I figured I can sort of combine my love for this era to not only use the money for the hospitals but also help boost morale with the calendars themselves.” The UCLA grad told Fox News. “Some people thought I was nuts, but I have a lot of friends that are artists and photographers and costume designers that actually donated their time and services."
Gina Elise charges only $22 for a copy of the Pin Ups for Vets 2009 Calendar, a small donation that can go a long way. You can order your calendar by visiting its website, pinupsforvets.com.
