Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi look like they are on their way out as American Idol judges, while Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez appear in.
It’s looking like the only holdover from the 2010 American Idol judges will be Randy Jackson after Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, and Kara DioGuardi have all left the show for various reasons. We all knew Simon Cowell was out the door to start his own show after the season ended, but the DeGeneres and DioGuardio exoduses might surprise you.
Kara DioGuardi was essentially fired from American Idol today with rumors that Jennifer Lopez had come to some sort of agreement to take her spot as the show aims to return to a 3-judge format. DioGuardi was amongst the American Idol judges for just two seasons and may be best known for her flirty “love affair” with Casey James during last year’s taping.
Ellen DeGeneres announced today that she is leaving American Idol voluntarily and that she feels the show was simply not a good fit for her. DeGeneres admitted today that she “voted herself off American Idol” and apparently the decision was made months ago, although she gave the show’s executives enough time to find a replacement before making the announcement.
The replacement for Ellen DeGeneres on the American Idol judges’ panel appears to be Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler. The Steven Tyler signing appears a bit farther out than the Jennifer Lopez one but I’m hearing news that this should be a done deal before too long.
