Dunkirk heavy favorite in Kentucky Derby lineup

Dunkirk

There is only one real reason not to like Dunkirk most out of this Kentucky Derby lineup but everything else looks great.

That one reason has to do with jockey Garrett Gomez choosing to ride another one of the Kentucky Derby favorites over Dunkirk in the big race.

Gomez opted to go with Pioneer of the Nile (currently listed at around 8/1) over Dunkirk and the logical explanation was that Gomez thought he’d have a better shot of beating the Kentucky Derby lineup with the other horse.

Dunkirk comes in with better Kentucky Derby odds at close to 6/1 and the issue of adjusting to a new jockey won’t be a big deal with horse racing superstar Edgar Prado stepping in to take Gomez’s place on this frontrunner.

Prado famously rode Barbaro to a victory in this race in 2006 and also has Triple Crown victories atop Birdstone in 2004 and as a 70-1 underdog with Sarava in the 2002 Belmont Stakes.

TheOnlinewire.com teamed up with our preferred online racebooks, Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook to bring our readers the latest news and the best odds to bet on each of its three legs and on the 2009 edition of the Triple Crown.

Both Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook provide horse wagering enthusiasts the highest wagering standards along with enticing promotions and sign up bonuses and financial safety.

Dunkirk put in a great effort last time out in the Florida Derby but ended up settling for a 2nd place finish as he ran out of closing room to catch another one of the Kentucky Derby favorites, Quality Road, for the victory.

Before that it was easy sailing for this horse with victories at two Gulfstream Park races.

This horse comes from Unbridled’s Song, who in turn was the offspring of 1990 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled.

There is no race that this horse won’t be able to run and the bloodlines suggest a strong showing amongst the Kentucky Derby favorites.

The recent work times (59:90 over 5 furlongs at Churchill Downs) suggest a horse that is more than capable of returning a nice chunk of change on the Kentucky Derby odds.

TheOnlinewire.com, in cooperation with Bodog Racebook and SBG Global Racebook, will provide daily updates, news and the latest odds on the Triple Crown 2009 and its individual legs starting with the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 2nd.
