The 2009 Preakness just finished up so let’s check out the results and what horse betting odds were the right choices.
We looked at every single angle for every single horse in the Preakness and hopefully you were given some good advice and cashed in big on the odds following the results of the 134th running of the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown.
Rachel Alexandra (8/5 on the Preakness odds) lead nearly wire-to-wire and the incredible filly was more than capable of holding off hard-charging Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird (11/2 on the Preakness odds) after a big run from near last that mimicked his performance in the Derby.
Jockey Calvin Borel was slightly calmer than on his big upset in the Kentucky Derby but the excitable Cajun appeared quite pleased with how the new Queen of horse racing performed on the track.
Musket Man (10/1 on the Preakness odds) again made his way to the top of the results page with a strong 3rd place showing.
This horse has never finished off the board and proved once again that he is the safest show bet in the horse racing world today.
The #1 starter Big Drama (10/1 on the Preakness odds) recovered after bucking his jockey in the gates and was neck-and-neck with the race favorite for much of the race but just couldn’t withstand the strong closers in this Preakness field.
Rachel Alexandra paid $5.60, $4.60 and $3.60 and the finishing time results for this race (1:55.08) easily shattered the old Preakness record for a filly that Nellie Morse set back in 1924.
The only scary thing about her winning performance was the fact that Borel noted that she did not come close to running her best race and that spells trouble for lots of horses if Rachel Alexandra is chosen to run in the Belmont Stakes on June 6th.
We’ll be sure to post results on her choice when they are available and will have more incredible coverage of the Belmont Stakes when the time comes and the odds are released.
1st: Rachel Alexandra
2nd: Mine That Bird
3rd: Musket Man
