Striking: A-
Florian has made huge improvements in his standup game and his Muay Thai kickboxing style is a very capable blend of technical work and incredible defensive skills. I’d compare his defensive game favorably to that of UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida while Florian has shown a strong chin recently as well. The only knock I have on him is he doesn’t seem to have that one punch knockout power but his standup is sound and very effective regardless.
Submissions: A
Florian has never been submitted and 7 of his 11 career wins heading into UFC 101 have come via submission. He is a black belt under a very respectable teacher and does very well setting up his ground game with intelligent moves. There are few in his weight class that can keep up on the ground.
Wrestling: B
This is probably the weakest area of his game but he’s also made huge improvements in the way he fights to make up for any lack of takedown defense and pure girth that gave him issues when he fought former UFC champion Sean Sherk in Florian’s last loss.
Overall: Florian is one of the best lightweights in the fight game today and will be a load for anyone he goes up against thanks to his well-rounded skillset.
