The legal battle to regain control of its domain name Bodog.com is over according to sources close to the online sports book Bodog.
Bodog lost its domain name Bodog.com after receiving a $48 million dollar default judgment against the online betting giant in August 2007.
In a lawsuit filed in the state of Nevada, 1st Technology alleged that Bodog's software infringed on their patents filed in the US and elsewhere in the world.
Bodog apparently failed to appear in court to answer the allegations and a default judgment was issued against them on August 1, 2007.
Bodog was ordered to pay $49 million in damages. Also included in the judgment was the removal of all DNS servers associated with Bodog.
The loss of its domain name on the eve of Football season first looked like a potentially fatal blow. However Bodog managed to launch newbodog.com within 12 hours and the current domain bodoglife.com few weeks after losing control over Bodog.com.
Sources close to the organization told us this afternoon that the legal battle is over and the company has regained its full rights over Bodog.com.
It is still unclear if Bodog reached a settlement agreement with 1st Technology or won the legal battle outright.
A formal statement is expected in the coming days.
