It's time for another set of UFC 156 predictions and this time we'll concentrate on the fight between Antonio Silva and Alistair Overeem.
The UFC 156 fight between Antonio Silva and Alistair Overeem is the 2nd of 4 on the main card that we'll make predictions on, and it might be the most anticipated matchup for many fans on Saturday, February 2nd. That is saying a lot when you have Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo as the UFC 156 main event, but these two heavy hitters will make for some must-watch mixed martial arts action.

Note: Now UFC 156 predictions are up on the main event between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar!
Antonio Silva (17-4), also known as "Pezao" and "Bigfoot", has big wins over Travis Browne, Fedor Emelianenko, and Andrei Arlovski over his career but he also was stopped by strikes in the 1st round in 2 of his last 3 fights. Silva is most comfortable when he can get a takedown and pound away at his foe, and the two men that knocked him silly recently were both talented wrestlers in Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier who dictated where they wanted the fights to take place.
Alistair Overeem (36-11) hasn't lost in 12 straight fights dating back to September of 2007, and it would please the big man from The Netherlands if this fight stays standing. Overeem is one of the most accomplished K1 kickboxing strikers ever to grace the octagon and his ability to knockout his opponents means you don't want to trade punches with this guy. His cardio, chin, and toughness are often disputed but Overeem has shown a nice offensive submission game and he has great takedown defense thanks to his massive frame and solid skills.
UFC 156 betting odds at Bookmaker Sportsbook that we will use for these predictions show Overeem as the -360 favorite with Silva returning a price of +300. There are a few things that will influence our predictions in the Silva vs. Overeem fight at UFC 156. First off we have to consider that Overeem gets hit too often and that he's displayed an iffy chin in the past. Second, Silva likely has the better Jiu Jitsu pedigree and should be able to threaten from the top or on the bottom if Overeem decides to surprise his opponent with some wrestling.
Silva doesn't have the same striking skills as Overeem but he's good there and has power and that might be enough if the fight stays standing. If Silva gets the takedown and makes Overeem expend energy then I think he'll dominate in the 2nd round and onward if he doesn't end it in the 1st. Ultimately he could get knocked out quickly like many of Overeem's lesser opponents over the last few years, but we are taking Silva as a big underdog. He has numerous ways to defeat Overeem and has no business being a 3/1 underdog against a guy with as many holes as the favorite in this UFC 156 fight.
