College football is about to get underway this weekend, which means it's time to look at some of the best games in Week 1 for fans of the game.
Texas (+10) at #11 Notre Dame
While Vegas has this line at 10, some other observers have this line much higher. Why does Vegas have the line where it is? Well, while a lot of people bet on Notre Dame football, no team has more bets placed on it each year than the University of Texas.
In the middle of the 2014 season, the Longhorns played fairly well. However, their start was dismal, as they lost 41-7 to BYU), and their last two games saw Arkansas and TCU outscore them by a total of 79-17. Head coach Charlie Strong is putting together a solid program in Austin, but this is an offense that isn't quite ready for the exposure that Notre Dame will give it. With Sheldon Day at defensive line, Jaylon Smith at linebacker and KeiVarae Russell patrolling the secondary, Texas will have a hard time scoring. Take Notre Dame to cover.
#20 Wisconsin (+10) at #3 Alabama
A double-digit win isn't as big an accomplishment in the NCAA as it is in the NFL,where parity is the name of the game. Wisconsin is on par with where West Virginia was in 2014, Virginia Tech was in 2013 and Michigan was in 2012. Alabama beat all of those teams by ten points or more. They beat Michigan 41-14 and Virginia Tech 35-10. The West Virginia win was only by ten, but they still covered. The Crimson Tide lead the nation in average margin of victory in games against nonconference foes since 2009, winning by an average of 30.9 points. Pick Alabama to cover in this one.
