2011 Pennsylvania Derby – Horse Racing Tips:

Ruler on Ice – Belmont Stakes winner has most recently raced in the Haskell (3rd) and Travers (4th).  He was bested by Pennsylvania Derby entries Rattlesnake Bridge and J W Blue last time out and might enjoy a longer distance.

Arthur’s Tale – Has had a long layoff since coming in 2nd in the 2011 Wood Memorial.  Arthur’s Tale is coming back after popping a splint in his left front leg, and this potential spoiler is sired by Bernardini.

Pender Harbour – Canadian import has switched surfaces quite a bit over his career, but has won in his last 2 dirt starts.  The Pennsylvania Derby entries are a big step up in competition, however.

Norman Asbjornson – This underdog took 2nd in the Gothan Stakes and 4th in the Wood Memorial against some tough competition before coming up 11th in the Preakness Stakes.  Norman Asbjornson is off a long layoff but won the last time he was on this track in an allowance.

Rush Now – This 3-year-old came up 2nd in the West Virginia Dirty last time out and hasn’t finished outside of 4th over his last 5 starts.  Rush Now is sired by 2000 and 2001 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow.

Isn’t He Perfect – This heavily raced contender has finished in the money just once over his last 6 starts, including his last 2 at the allowance level.  Isn’t He Perfect has lost numerous times to 2011 Pennsylvania Derby entries and I’m not entirely sure why he’s in the field.

To Honor and Serve – Was on the Kentucky Derby trail before taking some time off to get back to 100%.  Since then he took 6th in the Amsterdam Stakes in his return before looking incredible in a back-to-form allowance run at Saratoga.  To Honor and Serve is one of the best at his age when healthy.

J W Blue – Hasn’t finished outside of 3rd in his last 4 races, but also hasn’t won over his last 6 tries.  He’s been a spoiler numerous times and it is going to be interesting to see if J W Blue can finally break through with a win after showing consistency lately.

Rattlesnake Bridge – Coming off a 2nd place in the 2011 Travers Stakes, Rattlesnake Bridge is set to show even more improvement in the Pennsylvania Derby.  He’s finished 1st or 2nd in all but 1 of his 6 career races and has looked great since stretching out to longer than a mile in his last 2 starts.
