2011 Shadwell Turf Mile Field: Potential Entries
Written by Samantha Saints

Let’s take a look at the potential entries that are likely to comprise the field in the 2011 Shadwell Turf Mile.
Currently there appear to be 7 horses to list as potential entries into the 2011 Shadwell Turf Mile, and we’ll go over the field while releasing some horse racing tips on each of the contenders. We’ll update everyone on the official 2011 Shadwell Turf Mile entries later in the week when we preview the odds and post positions. Our Shadwell Turf Mile picks should be up later in the week as well and we hope that you’ll check back for our selections.
The 2011 Shadwell Turf Mile is going to be run on Saturday from Keeneland, and post time is set for roughly 5:00 PM ET. The Shadwell Turf Mile entries will be running a mile for their portion of the $600,000 purse, and the race is open to horses 3-and-older.
Make sure to do your horse racing betting at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Not only do they allow you to bet on tracks from all over the country from the comfort of your home, they are also offering our readers a 50% cash bonus for Shadwell Turf Mile wagering!
2011 Shadwell Turf Mile – Potential Entries:
Gio Ponti – This turf superstar won the 2010 Shadwell Turf Mile and looks set to try his luck at it again. Gio Ponti is coming off a 2nd place finish in the Arlington Million and hasn’t won since his victory here last year, but he has finished in the top 3 in 4 of his 5 races since while facing world class competition.
Sidney’s Candy – His connections keep giving him random trips on dirt and synthetic surfaces, but he’s probably been best on the turf. Sidney’s Candy has never raced at Keeneland and is coming off of an 8th place finish in the Forego Stakes on dirt, but he has two wins and one 2nd place effort over his 4 career turf starts.
Wise Dan – With only one career start on the turf, it is tough to know what to expect from Wise Dan. That one career start was a nice effort in a 1-mile turf race in the Firecracker, and he’s taken 1st his last 2 starts. He has the pedigree of a dirt runner, but seemed to really enjoy the grass.
Get Stormy – The 4th place finisher in the 2010 Shadwell Turf Mile hasn’t finished outside of the top 3 in any of his last 5 career starts. He’s won his other 2 career starts at Keeneland and it will be interesting to see if he’s able to rise up to this level of competition.
Court Vision – The 2010 Woodbine Mile winner hasn’t finished in the top 3 in his 6 races since that breakthrough, making me wonder what to expect here. Court Vision won the 2009 Shadwell Turf Mile but seems to be regressing badly as he ages.
Tajaaweed – I wasn’t impressed with Tajaaweed’s 6th place finish in the Arlington Million, but he looked improved in an allowance at Arlington Park last time out. This horse has plenty of potential and was sired by Dynaformer, the same horse that produced 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro.
Zoffany – This Irish invader is fresh off a 12th place finish in the Prix Maurice de Gheest-Goldikova, but that race was only 6 ½ furlongs. He’s taken 2nd both times he’s run on turf at a mile or longer and seems to get better the more distance he has to run. Turf star Frankel has taken home wins in all 8 career races, but struggled to best Zoffany in the St. Jame’s Palace in June.
