2011 Woodbine Mile Horses: Potential Entries
Written by Caitlin Patton
Tuesday, 13 September 2011 19:45

It’s time to preview the potential entries that seem likely to be amongst the field of horses in the 2011 Woodbine Mile.
The 2011 Woodbine Mile is set for September 19th, and the turf race has 15 potential entries that will attempt to get into the field on Sunday. With a $1,000,000 purse, the Woodbine Mile has attracted some big-name horses for the 5:42 PM ET post time. One notable horse that won’t be amongst the entries is turf superstar Gio Ponti, who elected to aim toward the Shadwell Turf Mile after some early flirtation with the Woodbine Mile.
Not all of the horses included in our 2011 Woodbine Mile field preview will actually make it into the starting gate, so be sure to check back later in the week for the official entries, odds, post positions, and horse racing picks on the winner and trifecta. 5Dimes Sportsbook is offering a 50% cash bonus to our readers that use the link I just posted to sign-up, and they allow horse bettors to throw cash down on just about any track in the world from the comfort of their home computer. Be sure to check them out before placing your Woodbine Mile picks anywhere else.
2011 Woodbine Mile Horses – Potential Entries:
Courageous Cat – Likely Woodbine Mile favorite is coming off wins in the Poker and Shoemaker Mile after finishing 2nd to Goldikova in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Court Vision – 2010 Woodbine Mile winner has fallen on hard times with nothing better than 4th place finishes in the 5 races since that win.
Turallure – This closer started his career a bit slow but has taken home wins in 2 of his last 3 while beating decent competition in the process.
Right One – Lost to Courageous Cat in the Poker but that was the only hiccup that didn’t result in a win through 4 career turf races.
Side Glance – This British invader most recently took 3rd in the Summer Mile Stakes and will look to finish stronger here.
Fortei Dei Marmi – Finished a disappointing 6th in the Gala Stakes but is supposed to be in excellent form and will stay at Woodbine on a permanent basis after the Mile.
Woodbourne – Another Woodbine local, Woodbourne has 4 career wins at this track and finished 3rd in this race last year.
The Usual Q.T. – 2nd place finisher in the 2010 Woodbine Mile hasn’t won in his last 7, but also has finished outside of 3rd in just 1 of those races while squaring off against some of the best.
Grand Adventure – Hasn’t won in any of his 6 most recent starts at Woodbine, but his first 3 career wins came here against solid competition.
Riding the River – All 10 career starts have come at Woodbine, with 5 career wins. Riding the River hasn’t raced at more than 7 furlongs in any of his last 5.
Dance and Dance – Past results (lost by a neck to Side Glance previously) should be taken with a grain of salt as this gelding looks set for a large improvement.
Kara’s Orientation – Another Woodbine local coming off 3 wins in 4 tries on this track, Kara’s Orientation also took 2nd in the 2010 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park.
Royal Bench – Irish shipper has some unimpressive finishes but has been facing world-class competition throughout.
Sidney’s Candy – He’s 0-for-2 in 1-mile turf races, but has also bested some of the elite turf runners in other races and will return to the surface after testing out dirt last time.
Hollinger – Although he has done nothing but disappoint for the most part, you have to like the fact that Holilnger has raced 5 of his 6 career starts at Woodbine.
