2012 Preakness Stakes Field - Post Positions & Odds

Post positions and betting odds have just been released for the 2012 Preakness Stakes.

The field for the 2012 Preakness Stakes is set and we wanted to take a second to preview the results of the post positions draw, as well as the morning line horse racing odds currently available for wagering at Pimlico.  The second leg of the Triple Crown will be run on May 19th and the race with a $1,000,000 purse will be shown live on the NBC channel.

It was just days ago when we previewed nearly 20 potential entries into the 2012 Preakness Stakes field, but after a slew of big-name defections we are left with 11 horses set to run on Saturday.  The Preakness Stakes odds reflect a fairly weak field set to go 1 3/16 miles, and it would have been nice to see horses like Union Rags, Hansen, Dullahan, Hierro,  and Gemologist get entered here.

Despite finishing 2nd in the Kentucky Derby, it’s Bodemeister that will be the 7/4 betting favorite for the 2012 Preakness Stakes while starting out of the #7 hole.  Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another ended up with spot #9 after the post positions draw and is listed as the 2nd choice at 5/2 odds, while Went The Day Well 6/1 and Creative Cause 7/1 are the only other horses listed at better than 14/1.
