Kentucky Derby Contenders Lineup

The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday is expected to have a full field of 20 horses going to the post.

Many people expect the Kentucky Derby to be a wide-open race this year with a number of horses in the lineup having a chance to win. There are still some leading contenders though and it is those horses we want to take a look at.

Dialed In 3.5-1

The current favorite at SBG Global.com to win the Kentucky Derby is Dialed In. The Nick Zito trained horse won the Florida Derby but it was not an impressive win.  There are some concerns that the horse may not be good enough to win the Derby but he is still the favorite at the moment.

Uncle Mo 4-1

It really appeared that Uncle Mo would be a huge favorite in the Kentucky Derby betting but then he finished third in the Wood Memorial and everyone jumped off the bandwagon. Some people are jumping back on board but not enough for the horse to be a big favorite.  The horse seems to have recovered from a gastrointestinal infection just fine but there are some questions as to whether he can handle the distance of the Derby.

Nehro 8-1

The horse seems to be the chic pick in the Derby but the hot pick in the paddock for the Derby almost never wins the race.  People like that he closed well in the Arkansas Derby but at 8-1 he is overrated.

Archarcharch 10-1

This is a horse that has talent and that will be a sentimental pick with trainer Jinxs Fires and jockey Jon Court in their first Kentucky Derby.

Mucho Macho Man 13.5-1

Finished third in the Louisiana Derby but is an unlikely winner of the Kentucky Derby with a trainer in Kathy Ritvo and a jockey in Rajiv Maragh who do not have experience in big races.

Soldat 14-1

The horse was fifth in the Florida Derby and with his pedigree loaded with speed instead of distance; the horse may be overvalued at 14-1.

Master of Hounds 15-1

The one European invader will get Garrett Gomez to ride.

Toby’s Corner 15-1

The winner of the Wood is not getting nearly enough attention as he is trained by Graham Motion.

Midnight Interlude 16-1

The horse won the Santa Anita Derby for trainer Bob Baffert.

All of the other horses in the field are listed at 20-1 or more at SBG Global.com.
