2011 Breeders' Cup Classic: Potential Entries

Breeders Cup Classic Entries

It’s time for a look at the horse racing contenders likely to be amongst the entries in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

We’ll have to wait until November 5th for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs, but it’s never too early to preview the contenders that are likely to make up the entries in the starting gate.  The Breeders’ Cup Classic will be run on dirt this year, and the field is limited to 14 horses looking to finish first over 1 ¼ miles.  It’s still too early to know exactly which of these potential entries will actually end up getting a spot in the lineup, but we can have a little fun and point out as much of the likely field as possible.

The horses are seem the most likely to run in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic at this point are Preakness Stakes 3rd place finisher Astrology, Belmont Stakes 3rd place finisher Brilliant Speed, Stephen Foster runner-up Mission Impazible, Pegasus Stakes winner Pants on Fire, Belmont Stakes winner Ruler on Ice, Suburban Handicap winner Flat Out, Belmont Stakes runner-up Stay Thirsty, and multiple stakes winning filly Havre De Grace.  There is still plenty of time left before post time of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and it appears that many of the potential entries are pointed toward the Whitney Handicap, the Travers Stakes, or the Woodward Stakes as possible prep races.

Other 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic contenders that I’ve heard tossed around on various websites are Coral-Eclipse winner So You Think, UAE Derby runner-up Master of Hounds, Santa Anita Handicap runner-up Setsuko, Hardwicke victor Await the Dawn, Donn Handicap winner Giant Oak, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo, Met Mile victor Tizway, Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford, Californian runner-up Twirling Candy, Santa Anita Handicap winner Game On Dude, Kentucky Derby 3rd place finisher Mucho Macho Man, and Dwyer Stake winner Dominus.

We’ll keep everyone updated as we hear more throughout the upcoming months.  Make sure to bookmark the website because in addition to potential entries in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, we’ll also have horse racing picks on all of the important horse races every month.
