2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup: Odds, Post Positions, & Picks
Written by Jake Thompson

We’ll preview the 2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup odds and post positions before releasing horse racing picks.
The 2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup is set to be run at Belmont Park on Saturday, and our horse racing picks on the winner and the trifecta box will hopefully net our readers some easy money. Post time is set for 5:46 PM ET and this 1 ¼-mile dirt race for 3-and-older males has attracted a strong field of 7 horses running for their share of the $750,000 purse. Let’s check out the Jockey Club Gold Cup odds and post positions, and then release some tips and picks shortly thereafter.
All of the 2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup odds used in this article can be found at 5Dimes Sportsbook. These guys allow you to bet on tracks from all over the country from the friendly confines of your home computer, and they are currently offering a 50% cash bonus to our readers. If you love horse racing, 5Dimes is a must-have!
2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup Post Positions, Horses, and Odds:
1 – Flat Out, 7-5
1a – Birdrun, 7-5
2 – Ice Box, 12-1
3 – Rodman, 8-1
4 – Stay Thirsty, 8-5
5 – Drosselmeyer, 6-1
6 – A.U. Miner, 10-1
2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup Picks – Trifecta Box:
Stay Thirsty
Drosselmeyer
A.U. Miner
The first thing we can do here is toss out Ice Box and Rodman from contention with our Jockey Club Gold Cup picks. Rodman will vie for the lead and he’s simply not good enough to avoid getting passed by most of the field in the later stages, while Ice Box hasn’t finished in the top 2 in any of his previous 6 races. Although the odds on Ice Box might show a slight overlay, ultimately I just can’t back him until he shows that he is capable of running a strong race again.
I’m also going to toss the co-race favorites in Flat Out and Birdrun from our horse racing picks. Flat Out will be coming on fast at the end, but I have to believe the impressive group of pressers will have better position and enough left in the tank to hold him off. It’s also his longest career race to date and it’s tough to tell if he might tire. Birdrun is a tough one to toss since he’ll be vying for the lead with Rodman and has the spot in the starting gate to do well, but ultimately he’s been beaten by A.U. Miner and Drosselmeyer recently and I believe he’ll get passed late.
2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup Picks – Winner:
A.U Miner
We are going with the 2nd biggest long shot on the board to take home the 2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup, and this one could pay off in a large way. Stay Thirsty and Drosselmeyer will both be pressing the pace and should put in excellent runs, but I think A.U. Miner’s huge closing ability can get the job done here.
He’s sired by 2003 Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Mineshaft, and this will be his 3rd start of the year. A.U. Miner looked poor in an allowance run in his first time back but then put in a huge effort while winning the Greenwood Cup last time out. He’s at his peak right now and will have the perfect pace if Birdrun pushes Rodman, which I expect will happen. Go with the 10-1 underdog to slay his more accomplished rivals in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
