Dialed In Replaces Uncle Mo as Kentucky Derby Favorite

Dialed In

Dialed In has replaced Uncle Mo as the 2011 Kentucky Derby favorite.

Ever since winning the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Uncle Mo has been considered the overwhelming horse betting favorite to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby.  All that changed in the last 10 days, however, after Uncle Mo took home a disappointing 3rd place finish in the Wood Memorial while Dialed In was fantastic in winning the Florida Derby against a stacked field of 3-year-olds.

Online sportsbooks now list Dialed In at 3/1 odds while Uncle Mo has been moved back to 5/1.  Before we discuss the other top 2011 Kentucky Derby contenders, I want to make it perfectly clear that the best way to guarantee a large payout on your favorite horse is to lock it in early online.  You could have guaranteed a price of around 10/1 on Dialed In not long ago and you’d get those odds on the day of the Kentucky Derby regardless of the Churchill Downs track odds that will likely list him around 3/1.  It’s the smart way to go if you decide on what horse you like the most during the early stages of the Kentucky Derby prep races.

The Factor remains in the top 5 Kentucky Derby contenders and is available at 6/1.  He’s won his last 3 races and has beaten top competition in both the San Vicente and the Rebel Stakes.  Next up for this guy is the Arkansas Derby on April 16th, and other Kentucky Derby contenders rumored to be in that field are Sway Away (25/1 Kentucky Derby odds), Elite Alex, Archarcharch, J.P.’s Gusto (40/1), and Brethren (25/1).

After the top 4 horses, the potential Kentucky Derby field gets a bit bunched up with numerous contenders listed at 16/1, 20/1, or 25/1.  Horses listed at 16/1 to win the Kentucky Derby are Soldat, Toby’s Corner, Jaycito, Shackleford, and Midnight Interlude.  You can lock in a 20/1 payout on Mucho Macho Man and Pants On Fire, while Stay Thirsty, Brethren, Sway Away, Santica, Awesome Patriot, Positive Response, Twice The Appeal, Animal Kingdom, and Arthur’s Tale all return 25/1.

My current Kentucky Derby long shot is Nehro, and this likely Arkansas Derby winner returns 40/1 odds if you lock him in now.  The offspring of Mineshaft started out slow with two horrible attempts to break maiden, but after looking incredible at a mile on dirt in late February he went on to take second to Pants On Fire in the Louisiana Derby.  This horse has lots of potential and seems to be peeking at the perfect time for a big run in the Kentucky Derby, and I’d say to get in before the payout falls off the table.
