Dubai World Cup Entries, Post Positions, Jockeys, Trainers, and Tips

dubai world cup

It’s time to preview the horse racing entries, post positions, jockeys, and trainers for Saturday’s Dubai World Cup race.

The Dubai World Cup is the richest horse race in the world and the entries for the 2011 version of the race will be running for a purse of 10,000,000 dollars in United States currency.  The horses will be going 10 furlongs in the 2011 Dubai World Cup and the race is set to be broadcast live on TVG and HRTV with a tape delayed showing on ABC later in the day.

There are 14 entries for the 2011 Dubai World Cup and we’ll preview all of the horses as well as their post positions, jockeys, trainers, odds, and notable performances.  The Dubai World Cup field is stacked and our horse racing predictions on this incredible race from Meydan Racecourse will be

ready to go on Saturday in the hours before post time.

2011 Dubai World Cup Entries, Post Positions, Jockeys, Trainers, Odds, and Tips:

1 – Fly Down: Julian Leparoux, Nick Zito

Big closer took 2nd in the 2010 Belmont Stakes and 3rd in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

2 – Monterosso:  Mickael Barzalona, Mahmood Al Zarooni

Long shot did take 1st on this track in the 2011 Dubai City of Gold.

3 – Prince Bishop: Ahmed Ajtebi, Saeed bin Suroor

Another big underdog that took 5th on this track in the 2011 Maktoum Challenge.

4 – Cape Blanco: Jamie Spencer, Aiden O’Brien

2nd betting choice has a big win over Twice Over, but is coming off a 13th in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

5 – Gio Ponti: Ramon Dominguez, Christophe Clement

Underrated runner, finished 2nd in Breeders’ Cup Mile, 4th in 2010 Dubai World Cup, 2nd in 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

6 – Victoire Pisa: Mirco Demuro, Katsuhiko Sumii

Better runner than recent 7th and 4th place finishes against good competition indicate.  Sleeper.

7 – Musir: Christophe Soumillon, Michael de Kock

Trainer says this horse is better than Lizard’s Desire, his 2nd place finisher in last year’s Dubai World Cup.

8 – Gitano Hernando: John Murtagh, Marco Botti

Decent showings in recent races on this track don’t make up for the fact that this horse might just not be good enough to win.

9 – Transcend: Shinji Fujita, Takayuki Yasuda

Largely untested Japanese runner is likely to set the pace in the 2011 Dubai World Cup.

10 – Poet’s Voice: Frankie Dettori, Saeed bin Suroor

Potential sleeper with question marks about whether he can get the Dubai World Cup distance.

11 – Richard’s Kid: Richard Mullen, Satish Seemar

Dubai World Cup’s biggest long shot is fresh off a 10th place finish in the Maktoum Challenge, but does have recent wins in the Goodwood Stakes and the Pacific Classic against decent enough horses.

12 – Twice Over: Tom Queally, Henry Cecil

Dubai World Cup favorite has multiple grass victories and won the 3rd leg of the Maktoum Challenge on this track earlier this month but did finish 10th in the 2010 Dubai World Cup.

13 – Buena Vista: Ryan Moore, Hiroyoshi Matsuda

Took 2nd in the Dubai Sheema Classic on this track during World Cup week last year and I expect this lightly raced horse to put in a very strong showing.

14 – Golden Sword: Kevin Shea, Michael de Kock

Last 3 races on this track have produced 14th, 3rd, and 11th place finishes against weaker fields than the 2011 Dubai World Cup.
