College Insider Tournament: Buffalo vs Iona Basketball Preview

Let’s preview tonight’s College Insider Tournament game between Buffalo and Iona with some predictions on the final score.
The Iona Gaels (23-11) and the Buffalo Bulls (20-13) will meet up in the College Insider Tournament this evening and the game is set to tip at 7:30 PM ET. Iona will be home for this college basketball game and they are 11-3 on their home court this year while Buffalo has amassed just a 7-10 mark when having to travel. We’ll preview both College Insider Tournament teams and see if we can’t make a winning prediction on a potential final score.
Buffalo has been a bit of a surprise this year and the Bulls are coming off a 49-48 victory at Western Michigan to open up their College Insider Tournament play. This team shoots well from the field (47.0%) but they’ve been cold lately and will have to improve on the 62.6 points and 42.0% shooting they’ve put up over their last 5 games. The Bulls have some excellent long-range shooters (37.5% from 3-point range this season) and they’ll have to get hot if they want to keep up with Iona’s scoring prowess. The Gaels give up a good amount of points (69.4 per game), but they score so many that the usually high tally is doable.
Iona scores 79.2 points per game on the year and they are shooting 47.7% from the field and 37.2% from 3-point range this season. Unlike Buffalo, the Gaels have kept the regular season momentum going lately and are averaging 78.6 points on 49.6% shooting from the field over their last 5 games. The Bulls have proven strong at forcing bad shots (allowing just 41.7% shooting) but I worry that Iona’s frenetic pace might be too much for Buffalo to handle. Rebounding appears pretty close and I’d give the turnover edge to Iona and their quick-handed guards.
The Gaels are the better team and they are playing better heading into the College Insiders Tournament. Buffalo doesn’t get blown out often but I just don’t think their play of late will allow them to contend with a team that scores as efficiently as Iona. I’d look for the Gaels to out-pace the Bulls while achieving a fairly comfortable winning tally in a high-scoring college basketball game.
