National League Pennant Odds & Thoughts

It’s time to put in some bets on the odds for the National League pennant race that will determine a World Series team.
Betting odds are up on the National League teams vying for a spot in the 2011 World Series, and we’ll tell you the squads that are worth an investment. There are separate odds up on the team that you believe will actually win the World Series, but we are only interested in the winners of the division series for the time being. Check out any of the online sportsbooks listed on the website here for the World Series odds if you so desire.
The Philadelphia Phillies (74-40) are the overwhelming favorites to claim the National League Pennant, and the team with the best record in baseball is available -115 odds. The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants (63-52) are the 2nd choice at +570, while the Milwaukee Brewers (65-50) at +640, the Atlanta Braves (66-49) at +650, and the St. Louis Cardinals at +1200 (62-53) are next up.
The best underdog bet to make on the National League Division Series champion is to go with the Cincinnati Reds (55-59) at +3500 odds. Although they are 9.5 games in back of the Brewers in the race to claim to National League Central title, Cincinnati is still very much alive. The Central has changed hands numerous times this year and there are still plenty of games left to make a move. The Reds haven’t played their best baseball of the year and I see them finishing strong while having a nice shot at making it to the World Series if they can get some luck on their side.
For those looking for a slightly more likely option, I think that the Giants are the only other National League team that can take down the Phillies. Although San Francisco has dealt with numerous injuries to their starting lineup, they have the dominant pitching staff that is needed to go far in the MLB Playoffs. They have experience on their side after winning it all last year and should have most of their hitters back and healthy by the time the regular season comes to an end. San Francisco might be the only team in the league that can compete with Philadelphia’s pitching staff and they seem to present a nice value at nearly 6-1 odds.
