NFL Preseason Preview: Bears vs. Giants Game Predictions

Bears vs. Giants

It’s time for NFL predictions on the final score in this preview of the Monday Night Football preseason game between the Giants and the Bears.

The week 2 NFL preseason Monday Night Football game features the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants, and our predictions and preview will let our readers know what to expect tonight.  The Bears vs. Giants game is going to be played on ESPN at 8:00 PM ET, and the NFL odds favor New York at -4.5 with a total of 35.5.  Chicago opened up their preseason schedule with a 10-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills, while the Giants fell 10-20 to the Carolina Panthers in their opener.

Chicago head coach Lovie Smith has a 15-15 record in NFL preseason games but is 5-2 in week 2.  New York head coach Tom Coughlin is 14-15 during his preseason career with the Giants but also has a winning record during week 2.  Both coaches seem to put an emphasis on this week of the preseason and I don’t see much of an edge between the two coaches when it comes to making predictions in the Bears vs. Giants game.

Although the starters should play quite a bit here, the backup quarterbacks are still extremely important since they are expected to help decide the 2nd half.  Chicago has Caleb Hanie and Nathan Enderle backing up Jay Cutler while the Giants will go to David Carr and Ryan Perrilloux when Eli Manning calls it a day.  The edge here has to be with New York, and their veteran leadership should show through in the 2nd half.  Carr figures to get most of the action with Sage Rosenfels not playing, and his experience with the offense will be a big key to figuring out how the 2nd half ends up.

Cutler and the Bears did not look in synch during their opening preseason game and I have to believe that the Giants will be much more fluid on offense.  These squads both have nice defenses and will make it hard for their adversaries, but New York’s edge in backup quarterbacks, coupled with their home field advantage, will be enough to get the victory while covering the NFL betting odds.
