Shawn Tompkins Dead at Age 37
Written by Jake Thompson
Monday, 15 August 2011 00:56

Unfortunately we have to report that mixed martial arts trainer Shawn Tompkins is dead at age 37.
Mike Straka (@MikeStraka on Twitter) broke the news just seconds ago, reporting that “Guys, it is with great sadness that I report the passing of our great friend & trainer Shawn Tompkins. Details developing. Autopsy pending”. Tompkins is a former kickboxer that has tutored such MMA standouts as Sam Stout, Mark Hominick, and Chris Horodecki. Details are still hazy and an autopsy is planned for later in the week.
Tompkins was the coach for the Los Angeles Anacondas in the International Fight League and was a striking instructor at the Tapout Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had recently worked with high-profile fighters such as Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort, and Tompkins was regarded as one of the best striking coaches in the fight game. Tompkins was previously one of the top trainers at Xtreme Couture before he left after differences with the camp.
He is survived by his wife Emilie Stout (sister of Sam Stout).
