Wednesday MLB Best Bet: Yankees vs. White Sox
Written by Jake Thompson
Wednesday, 03 August 2011 19:05

Wednesday’s MLB best bet will be in the ESPN game between the Yankees and the White Sox.
The New York Yankees (66-42) take on the Chicago White Sox (52-56) in this 8:10 PM ET game, and the ESPN-televised clash has been selected as Wednesday’s MLB best bet. Online sportsbooks have the MLB odds close to even money either way and our betting picks will help you figure out which squad is most likely to put some cash in your wallet. The Yankees have won 4 of 6 head-to-head meetings this season and will be the road team in tonight’s matchup.
Starting pitchers for the Yankees vs. White Sox game will be A.J Burnett (8-9, 1.29 WHIP, 4.23 ERA) going for New York and Gavin Floyd (9-9, 1.17 WHIP, 3.96 ERA) taking the mound for Chicago. Floyd has been lights out lately with a 0.81 ERA over his last 22.1 innings, while Burnett has struggled to zero wins over his last 3 starts. Each right-hander dominated the opposing team’s lineup during 8-inning starts earlier this season, respectively.
Yankees’ third baseman Alex Rodriguez remains out with a knee injury while veteran White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko is listed as doubtful with a left calf injury after being plunked by Andrew Miller on Sunday. New York is hitting a blistering .297 over their last 10 games and seem to have finally woken up offensively. Chicago’s offense is going in the other direction with a .225 mark over their last 10, and designated hitter Adam Dunn continues to hinder the offense with his inability to get hits after falling behind in the count.
The White Sox haven’t been able to score more than a few runs against lesser pitchers and you have to assume that Burnett will be able to throw some quality innings. Floyd is a very good pitcher and seems to be at his best in big games like this, but the Yankees are hitting so well that they’ll also be able to put some runs on the board. This could definitely come down to the later innings and you have to like New York’s 2.40 bullpen ERA over the 3.17 ERA the Chicago relief pitchers have put up. Look for the Yankees to take the lead in the 8th inning as they hold on for the win that cashes our -102 odds.
