College Basketball Predictions: Ohio State vs. Kansas Preview

Ohio State Kansas

Our preview of the Ohio State vs. Kansas game will include predictions on the final score.

The #2 seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (31-7) and the #2 seeded Kansas Jayhawks (31-6) are all set to meet up on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, with the winner set to move on to the championship game to take on the winner of the Louisville vs. Kentucky game.  Start time here is set for 8:49 PM ET and the Buckeyes are currently 2.5-point favorites at Bovada Sportsbook, while the total sits at 136.5.

This will be the second game played between these schools this year after Kansas won 78-67 as a 1.5-point favorite in the early stages of the season.  The Jayhawks have won all 4 head-to-head meetings against Ohio State since 1997.  Bet on the Ohio State vs. Kansas game at Bovada Sportsbook and you’ll receive a 100% cash bonus on top of your first deposit that is good for up to $125 in free money!

Ohio State was upset by Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament but has rebounded to beat Loyola-Maryland, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, and Syracuse during their NCAA Tournament run.  The Buckeyes have won 8 of their last 9 games and they’ve done it with a strong offense that can beat you from both inside and outside.  Ohio State will be going up against a Kansas defense that is adept at forcing opponents into bad shots, and the Buckeyes won’t be able to dominate the rebounding category here like they would against most opponents.

Kansas went down to Baylor as a 6.5-point favorite in the Big 12 Tournament but has gotten by Detroit, Purdue, N.C. State, and North Carolina to reach the Final Four.  The Jayhawks have struggled in their NCAA Tournament games but they just keep on finding ways to win.  Ohio State has a strong defense but hasn’t been playing as strongly recently as they did for much of the year.  Perimeter defense has been an issue for the Buckeyes lately, but Kansas is shooting just 22.2% from long range over their last 5 games and might not be able to take advantage of that problem.

Predictions here call for Kansas to pull off the upset by using a fierce defense to force turnovers that lead to fast-break buckets.  The Buckeyes are used to imposing their will but will be out of their comfort zone on Saturday night.  I’m also recommending a bet on the under as I feel the odds are about 5 points too high.
