College Football Predictions: Boise State vs. Georgia Preview

We’ll preview the Boise State vs. Georgia game with college football predictions on the final score.

The #7 Boise State Broncos (0-0) will try to get the 2011 college football season started with a win over the #22 Georgia Bulldogs (0-0), and our predictions on the final score will help everyone figure out what to expect.  Before we make predictions, let’s take a second to preview the Boise State vs. Georgia odds for this 8:00 PM ET game that will be shown live on ESPN.

Online sportsbooks currently have Boise State favored by 3 on the point spread despite the fact that the game is being played in the Bulldogs’ backyard at the Georgia Dome.  55% of tracked college football bettors are taking Boise State at those odds and the line hasn’t moved much since opening up with the Broncos favored by 2.5.  Tonight’s total sits at 51.5 and has seen very little movement since the line opened up.

This game will be a rematch of a 2005 showdown that saw Georgia dominate in a 48-13 victory.  The Bulldogs outgained Boise State by 271 yards through the air and Broncos quarterback Jared Zabransky made numerous mistakes.  The good news for Boise State fans is that current quarterback Kellen Moore is one of the best in college football and his decision making should eliminate the mistakes that befuddled the Broncos in the last meeting.

Georgia struggled last season but should be much improved this time around with plenty of starters returning on both sides of the ball.  Quarterback Aaron Murray looks like a star and the Bulldogs should be a vastly improved squad.  Boise State is one of the best college football teams in the nation at taking away the running game, so Murray will have to be sharp if he wants to put points on the board.  The Broncos can beat teams with the run and the pass, but I expect Georgia to be strong enough to slow them down.

Predictions on this game come down to which team is more likely to turn the ball over, and I feel that distinction goes to Georgia.   Boise State rarely makes mistakes and I think their ability to grind clock and avoid dumb plays will be the difference here.  Look for the Broncos to win a close game and I believe the best bet to make here would be to go with the under at 51.5 points.
