College Football Predictions: Boise State vs. Toledo Preview

Our Boise State vs. Toledo preview will make final score predictions for Friday’s college football game.

The game between the #4 Boise State Broncos (1-0) and the Toledo Rockets (1-1) is the focus of this preview, and the college football showdown will play out at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN.  Toledo and Boise State played last season and it was the home-team Broncos that took home a dominant 57-14 victory, covering as 38-point favorites and outgaining the Rockets by 213 total yards.

Although Toledo’s appetite for revenge on their home field is definitely a consideration in our college football predictions, Legends Sportsbook is still looking for a blowout and has Boise State as a 20.5-point road favorite.  The Boise State vs. Toledo odds opened up with the Broncos favored by just 17.5 but has been gradually bet up by the force of a 75% consensus being on the wagering favorite.  The total is at 59.5 and has been bet up a point since debuting at 58.5 earlier in the week.

The Broncos opened up their season with a top-25 road win, taking out the Georgia Bulldogs by a 35-21 final score.  Boise State showed a great mix of run and pass and it appears they will have one of the elite offenses in college football yet again.  Toledo’s defense doesn’t impress me much here and it looks like Boise State should be able to put up 40 or more points once again.

The Rockets’ chance to hang with their superior rival comes in the form of their electric offense.  Quarterbacks Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens have combined to throw for 575 yards with 7 touchdowns and just 1 interception, and both starters are threats to run in the backfield.  Toledo opened up their year with a 58-22 win over New Hampshire before taking Ohio State to the brink in a 22-27 loss, and it’s the Rockets’ ability to beat defenses in numerous ways which is their best quality.

Boise State’s defense allowed 373 yards against Georgia but should find it a bit easier to stop Toledo.  The Broncos’ defensive line is one of the best in the nation and they should be able to force the Rockets into some turnovers by getting into the backfield in record time.  Toledo will still score points here but I also believe they’ll be a little shell-shocked at just how poorly their offense runs in the early stages of this game.

20.5 is a large point spread and makes the Boise State vs. Toledo predictions a bit tough to make.  After this preview, the only thing apparent to me is that the Broncos should win by a few scores while both teams put up points.  How quickly Toledo gets it together will determine if they are able to cover the point spread or not, but I believe they’ll put enough scores on the board in the 2nd half to ensure that Boise State doesn't pull their starters.  Go with the over here and hope that the Rockets don’t start too slowly.
