College Football Predictions: Hawaii vs. San Jose St. Preview
Written by Jake Thompson

Our predictions are ready in the preview of Friday’s college football game between Hawaii and San Jose State.
The Hawaii Warriors (3-2) are 6-point favorites over the home-team San Jose State Spartans (2-4) in Friday’s college football game, and we’ll preview both squads before making predictions on the final score. Hawaii was a 41-7 winner last year and has won outright in 9 of the last 10 against San Jose State. The Spartans pulled a 20-17 upset in Hawaii in 2008, and 2 of the last 3 wins by the Warriors were overtime victories.
Hawaii has beaten Colorado, UC-Davis, and Louisiana Tech this year, but they’ve also lost road games against UNLV and Washington. The Warriors are led by experienced quarterback Bryant Moniz (1578 yards, 64.6%, 15 TD, 1 INT) and throw for 343.4 yards per game while averaging 37.2 points each time out. The San Jose State defense gives up 30.8 points, but they’ve also done a nice job in pass protection and I’m not sure Hawaii has the rushing attack to exploit this defense properly.
San Jose State’s offense has shown a nice mix of the run and the pass, but the balance has amounted to only 20.3 points per game. Quarterback Matt Faulkner (1119 yards, 62.8%, 4 TD, 4 INT) leads an attack that moves the ball well but doesn’t always punch it in once in the red zone. Hawaii’s defense is only allowing 93.2 rushing yards a game, but some of that has to be attributed to the fact that the Warriors get early leads and force opposing teams to pass. San Jose State’s victories have been against New Mexico State and Colorado State, while they’ve suffered defeats against some strong teams in Stanford, UCLA, Nevada, and BYU.

Hawaii vs. San Jose State predictions aren’t easy to make since it is tough to know what to expect of the Warriors on the road. Ultimately I believe that the Spartans have the balanced offense to move the ball well, while their defense should be able to slow the Warriors down. I’m not sure that will be enough for San Jose State to win outright, but it should be enough to keep the game close until the final buzzer.
Hawaii vs. San Jose State Score Predictions:
Hawaii 30
San Jose State 27
