College Football Predictions: LSU vs. Alabama Preview

Score predictions on today’s LSU vs. Alabama college football game are ready to go in this preview.

Some are calling it the “Game of the Century”, and our predictions will help everyone figure out how today’s college football clash between the #1 LSU Tigers (8-0) and the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) will play out.  We’ll preview both teams and then tell you what the final score is likely to be.  Start time of the LSU vs. Alabama game is set for 8:00 PM ET, and you can catch the college football action live on the CBS channel.

LSU has gone undefeated against the likes of Oregon, Northwestern State, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn.  The Tigers are averaging 39.2 points per game on 180.2 passing and 191.0 rushing yards each time out.  The LSU passing game works so well because of their ability to run, but that facet is likely to be taken away against an Alabama defense that allows just 44.9 yards per game on the ground on 1.7 per carry.

The Crimson Tide runs for 229.2 yards a game while adding in another 228.4 in the passing department.  Alabama scores 39.4 points on average this year and they’ve done it during wins over Kent State, Penn State, North Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Vanderbilt, Mississippi, and Tennessee.  Quarterback A.J. McCarron (1664 yards, 67.0%, 10 TD, 3 INT) has played well beyond his years, but if LSU can take away the run then he’s likely to make some mistakes.  The Tigers only allow 76.6 rushing yards per game on 2.5 per carry and are a very strong defense in their own right.

Alabama is the home team and the Crimson Tide is favored by 4.5 with a total of 41.5 at Legends Sportsbook.  The Crimson Tide will be happy to know that the favorite in this head-to-head SEC series has covered the point spread in 7 of the last 9 meetings, while LSU can find solace in the fact that the road team has been a point spread winner in 12 of the last 15 between these schools.

Although neither team has been outrushed this season, both were outrushed in their final game last year in losing efforts.  Whichever team is able to run the ball will likely come out on top, and that is why our predictions are calling for Alabama to get the narrow win in a hard fought game.  I think the Crimson Tide is a tick better at running the ball, as well as a bit better at stopping the run.  That should be enough to get them the victory while LSU falls down a few spots in the BCS standings.
