College Football Predictions: Marshall vs. WVU Preview

Marshall WVU Football

It’s time for college football predictions on the final score in our preview of the game between WVU and Marshall.

The Sunday college football game between the Marshall Thundering Herd (0-0) and the WVU Mountaineers (0-0) has an early start time of 3:30 PM ET, and we hope that our predictions on the final score will help everyone pocket some easy money.  Close to 65% of tracked college football bettors are taking WVU here and our preview will help sort out whether or not the majority of gamblers are on the right team.

WVU took home a narrow 24-21 overtime victory against Marshall last season and has won all 6 head-to-head meetings since 1997.  Lost in the dominant streak of WVU is that Marshall has covered the point spread in 3 of the last 4 while doing a great job defensively.  It’s been Marshall’s lack of offense that has cost them more than anything and it will be interesting to see if the Thundering Herd can put some points on the board here.

A quick preview of the college football odds shows that the Mountaineers are favored by 23.5 on the point spread with the total at 55.5.  WVU struggled a bit last season to get their run-heavy offense going but should be much better this season with plenty of experience coming back.  Marshall’s defense also has quite a few guys back and they are helped by the fact that coach Doc Holliday was with the WVU program for many years.  He knows the opposing offense and that will help defend against WVU.

Marshall also has quite a few guys coming back on the offensive side of the ball and should show improvement after being stagnant at times last season.  They might have some success with WVU replacing quite a few experienced parts on defense, and I think the Thundering Herd can stick in this game despite the tough road environment.

I don’t see Marshall getting the outright victory, but a cover of the college football odds is definitely a possibility.  Holliday knows what to expect and should have his team ready to go for this ESPN-televised showdown.  I’d lean on the under but the only wager I’m recommending in the Marshall vs. WVU game is going with the underdog to keep it close.

Marshall vs. WVU Score Predictions:

Marshall 17

WVU 34
