College Football Predictions: Troy vs. FIU Preview

Our preview of the Tuesday college football game between Troy and FIU is ready to go.

The Troy Trojans (2-4) will go on the road to take on the FIU Golden Panthers (4-3) tonight, and we are going to preview both teams before making predictions on the final score.  The Troy vs. FIU game will be shown live on ESPN2 and start time is set for 8:00 PM ET.  Legends Sportsbook has the betting odds favoring the Golden Panthers at -6.5, while the total sits at 55 points.

Troy had won all 6 head-to-head meetings against FIU since 2003 until last year when the Golden Panthers pulled a big upset.  FIU went on the road as 8.5-point underdogs but left Troy with a 52-35 victory in a rather one-sided game.  The over has been a winner in 2 of the last 3 meetings between these Sun Belt programs.

The Trojans’ only wins of the season were home games against Middle Tennessee State and UAB, while their losses include clashes with Clemson, Arkansas, UL-Lafayette, and UL-Monroe.  Troy quarterback Corey Robinson (1779 yards, 61.3%, 9 TD, 7 INT) has played well below expectations for this potentially high-scoring offense, and the Trojans have scored just 22.7 points per game despite putting up yardage totals that suggest an improvement before the season is done.  The Golden Panthers have a nice defense but are still capable of giving up some points to the better passing teams they go up against.

FIU has received strong quarterback play from Wesley Carroll (1455 yards, 63.5%, 7 TD, 2 INT), and I really like the look of this offense.  They add in 144.6 rushing yards per game and have the balance to successfully mask what they are trying to accomplish.  The Golden Panthers will be going up against a Troy defense that has been very poor this season while allowing 34.7 points per game.  The Trojans allow 173.3 rushing yards per game and will likely have to score quite a bit to keep up.

Our score predictions in the Troy vs. FIU college football game call for the Golden Panthers to move the ball very well on offense.  Troy has a much better offense than they’ve shown this season and I think the Trojans can keep pace for a while.  Ultimately though, the Trojans have too many problems this year to win this game and I’m looking for the Golden Panthers to get the outright victory as they begin to pull away in the 4th quarter after tiring out their opponent with a steady dose of the rushing attack.
