We’ll preview the college football game between Boise State and Michigan State with final score predictions.

 

Plenty of questions will be answered on Friday, August 31st when the #22 Boise State Broncos (0-0) hit the road to take on the Michigan State Spartans (0-0) in Spartan Stadium.  The top 25 matchup will get started at 8:00 PM ET and will be another in a long line of opening week games where the Broncos hit the road to take on a BCS elite squad.

Boise State traveled to Georgia to win comfortably against the Georgia Bulldogs to start their season off last year, and also beat a top-end squad on the road the year before when they traveled to defeat the Virginia Tech Hokies.  Those Bronco squads had Kellen Moore at quarterback, so it will be interesting to see who is starting at the top spot for Boise State this year with one of college football’s all-time greats moving on to the NFL.

 

For the second year in a row for Boise State, perfection was ruined by a missed field goal from chip shot range.  The Broncos had a chance to beat TCU in the final seconds after a costly fumble from the backup running back gave the Horned Frogs the break they needed since Boise State was running out the clock with the lead.  Boise State got the ball back but missed from short range to fall 35-36 for their only loss of the season, but the Broncos did go on to win by 32 against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the bowl game.

 

Michigan State was also a winner in their bowl game, going into overtime to defeat Georgia 33-30 as a 2.5-point underdog.  The Spartans lost against the Wisconsin Badgers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers last season as underdogs, but they also bring back plenty of talent from last year’s squad whereas Boise State suffered huge losses to graduation and the NFL Draft.

 

The Spartans look excellent on offense with some excellent lineman coming back to open up holes, but Boise State has some of the best game planning in college football and routinely frustrates opponents in these early games when given plenty of time to prepare.  The big question mark for the Broncos is whether or not they will be able to move the ball with so many fresh faces in a tough road environment.  I think they’ll find a way to again surprise and my predictions will be made on this one being close until the end while Boise State covers the point spread.
