MLB Preview: Brewers vs. Cardinals Game 3 Predictions
Written by Jake Thompson
Wednesday, 12 October 2011 17:00

Our MLB preview of the NLDS game 3 clash between the Brewers and Cardinals will include predictions on the winner.
The Milwaukee Brewers (100-69) and the St. Louis Cardinals (94-75) are set to play game 3 of their National League Divisional Series tonight, and start time is set for 8:05 PM ET. The series is tied 1-1, and tonight’s MLB game will be shown live on TBS.
Milwaukee was a 9-6 winner in game 1, while the Cardinals came back strong in a 12-3 road victory in game 2. Game 3 will be in St. Louis and the Cardinals are strong favorites at -151 according to the MLB odds at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Make sure to bet on game 3 of the NLDS at 5Dimes Sportsbook because they are offering our customers a 50% cash bonus on top of their first deposit.
Starting pitchers will be Yovani Gallardo (18-10, 1.20 WHIP, 3.38 ERA) for the Brewers and Chris Carpenter (12-9, 1.24 WHIP, 3.43 ERA) for the Cardinals. Gallardo has a 1.27 ERA over his last 3 starts for Milwaukee, while Carpenter has a 1.71 ERA over that same time frame for St. Louis. Gallardo has given up over 3 runs just once over his last 10 starts, but his team has lost in 7 of his last 8 starts against the Cardinals. Carpenter gave up 10 earned runs in his 2 starts in Milwaukee this year, but he’s only allowed 2 earned runs over 17.0 innings while pitching against the Brewers in St. Louis.
With both starters being right-handers, it is important to look at how each squad has hit righties this year. St. Louis has a .270 mark against non-southpaws this year, while Milwaukee comes in at .257. The Brewers have hit just .240 overall away from home this season and are at just .263 over their last 10 games overall. The Cardinals are hitting well and sit at .299 over their last 10 games. Milwaukee relies on the long ball a bit too much and it is worth noting that Carpenter hasn’t allowed a home run in his last 5 starts.
These bullpens are both very good and I don’t see an edge for either team, so much of our Brewers vs. Cardinals preview comes down to how the teams match up against the starting pitchers. Carpenter is on a roll and I don’t see the Brewers scoring more than a run or two tonight, while Gallardo is also pitching well but is going up against a hot-hitting lineup. Our game 3 predictions call for St. Louis to get the win here on another strong effort from Carpenter.
Brewers vs. Cardinals Score Predictions:
Brewers 2
Cardinals 5
