Monday MLB Best Bet: Rangers vs. White Sox

Ozzie Guillen

We’ll go with the game between the Rangers and White Sox for our Monday MLB best bet.

The Texas Rangers (21-19) will meet up with the Chicago White Sox (17-24) for this 8:10 PM ET game, and we’ve selected the clash as our MLB best bet for Monday.  Online sportsbooks have made the home-team White Sox the small betting favorites despite the fact that their poor 5-11 home record is actually worse than Texas’ 6-10 mark on the road.  MLB bettors are taking the Rangers at close to a 70% consensus and we’ll let you know if the majority of bets are being made on the correct squad.

Right-hander Colby Lewis (3-4, 1.24 WHIP, 4.57 ERA) takes the mound for the Rangers and he’s coming off 3 consecutive strong starts.  Although some are predicting him to get back to last season’s impressive form, I still don’t think he has good enough stuff to sustain his recent streak.  It’s worth noting that the last 3 starts were against the light-hitting Mariners and Athletics (twice), and Lewis has struggled against the White Sox in the past.  Chicago is hitting .277 over their last 10 games and should be able to score some runs here.

The White Sox will start righty Edwin Jackson (3-4, 1.45 WHIP, 4.29 ERA) for this one and it’s tough to figure this guy out.  He’s coming off 2 dominant starts and seems to either be incredible or horrible depending on how his command is working.  Jackson has done well in most of his career starts against the Rangers, and Texas is still not at 100% with left fielder Josh Hamilton (shoulder) and right fielder Nelson Cruz (quad) on the disabled list.  The Rangers are hitting just .244 over their last 10 games since the injury bug bit them, and Jackson should be able to put some quality innings.

It’s always a bit scary to back Jackson with his command issues but ultimately I feel that the White Sox have to be the bet at these odds.  I don’t think Lewis is going to have a good start so we have a chance to win this one even if Jackson decides to walk the lineup a few times.  Chicago has gotten unlucky at home this season and we’ll call for the trend to reverse itself as they pick up a win against a Texas team that simply doesn’t have the pop to hurt teams like they normally are capable of.
