NFL Predictions: Chiefs vs. Lions Preview

We’ll do our best to make accurate NFL score predictions in our Chiefs vs. Lions preview.

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) will try to get their first win of the season against the Detroit Lions (1-0), and this game has been selected as one of the 2 we’ll provide predictions on this Sunday.  The Chiefs vs. Lions game is set for 1:00 PM ET and close to 60% of tracked NFL bettors are favoring Detroit here.

The Chiefs opened up their 2011 NFL campaign with a disappointing 7-41 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.  Although the defeat looks horrible on the surface, it is not as bad as it looked.  Kansas City averaged 6.0 yards per rush and these guys are more than capable of moving the ball if they don’t have to totally abandon the run in a comeback attempt.  The Chiefs’ defense allowed 364 yards and will be facing a big test against the Lions in this one.

Detroit started the year with a 27-20 road victory as small underdogs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and there are both positives and negatives to preview.  The Lions looked strong on offense with a balanced mix that put up 431 total yards, but their defense showed some problems in the secondary.  If Kansas City can find some room in the passing game, then that dominant rushing attack will really open up.

Legends Sportsbook has the Chiefs vs. Lions odds favoring the home-team Lions at -9 with the total at 45 points.  The Lions won 25-20 in the most recent meeting between these two teams back in 2007, and the Chiefs covered a similar point spread in that game.  Kansas City passed for 344 yards and could put up a similar effort here if Detroit brings extra guys to stop Jamaal Charles and company from tacking on big gains in the running game.

With Kansas City defensive back Eric Berry gone for the year, you can bet that Detroit will find open passing lanes with the talented Matthew Stafford back there.  That being said, Kansas City has the running game to match points with the Lions and I expect the Chiefs to be in this game.  I am making my Chiefs vs. Lions predictions on there being a ton of points with Detroit doing enough to win outright but not to cover the point spread.
