NFL Predictions: Eagles vs. Falcons Preview

eagles falcons

It’s time to preview Sunday’s late game between the Eagles and Falcons with predictions on the score.

Michael Vick returns to his old stomping grounds as his Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) try to keep their undefeated 2011 NFL season alive against the Atlanta Falcons (0-1), and we’ll preview what to expect in this 8:20 PM ET clash.  5Dimes Sportsbook has the Eagles vs. Falcons odds favoring Philadelphia at -1 with the total set high at 49.5.  Close to 65% of tracked NFL bettors are taking the Eagles to cover the point spread, and our score predictions will let you know if the majority is wagering on the correct side.

The Falcons opened up their 2011 campaign with a disappointing 12-30 road loss to the Chicago Bears, and the final score might not be as bad as it looks.  Atlanta actually outgained the Bears in total yardage, and there were definitely positives to take away from the loss.  The Falcons showed a strong mix of the run and pass against one of the NFL’s toughest defenses, while Atlanta allowed just 88 rushing yards.  The secondary was exploited a bit, but Cutler and Chicago’s offense is geared toward big passing performances.

The Eagles didn’t have much trouble getting by the St. Louis Rams, with the final score of 31-13 again being a bit deceiving.  Philadelphia outgained the Rams by just 69 yards and showed some potential problems that could affect them down the road.  The Eagles’ offense looked strong, but the defense gave up 154 rushing yards on 5.9 yards per carry, showing that a rushing team like Atlanta might put up big numbers.  Let’s also not forget that St. Louis lost quarterback Sam Bradford, running back Steven Jackson, and wide receiver Danny Amendola to injury during that game.

Philadelphia won the last game in the Eagles vs. Falcons’ series, grabbing a 31-17 home win last year.  The Eagles won 34-7 in Atlanta the previous year, while taking a 27-14 home win in 2007.  Philadelphia covered the point spread in all of those games, while the under was a winner in 2.

Eagles vs. Falcons predictions call for a heavy dose of Atlanta running back Michael Turner.  The Falcons should be able to score on this defense, and they have to be hungry after losing outright as favorites in their week 1 matchup.  Philadelphia has the offense to move the ball on just about anyone, and I think the Eagles score a decent amount of points as well.  Ultimately, I believe that Atlanta’s offense will be too much for the Eagles, and the Falcons will get their first win of the season in a game with plenty of big plays.
