NFL Predictions: Eagles vs. Seahawks Preview

Predictions are ready just in time for the Thursday NFL game between the Eagles and the Seahawks.

The Philadelphia Eagles (4-7) and the Seattle Seahawks (4-7) both have a long road to go if they want to make the 2011 NFL Playoffs, but one of them will take a big step forward in their Thursday game.  Start time of the Eagles vs. Seahawks game is set for 8:20 PM ET, and the clash will be shown live on the NFL Network channel.

Philadelphia and Seattle last met up in 2008 when the Eagles went on the road to win 26-7 as 7-point favorites.  The Eagles will again be on the road in Thursday’s game, but they are only 3-point favorites at Legends Sportsbook this time around.  The total sits at 43.5, and it is interesting to note that 3 of the 4 head-to-head meetings between these teams since 2002 have gone over their respective line.  Philadelphia is 3-2 on the road, while Seattle is just 2-3 when playing at home.

Eagles’ Offense vs. Seahawks’ Defense:

Although Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy (toe) figures to suit up, quarterback Michael Vick (ribs) and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) are both expected to miss.  Vince Young has been a solid fill-in thus far, but the Eagles are definitely not at full strength.  Philadelphia is capable of beating teams with both the run and the pass, but is held a bit in check because of the injuries.  Seattle’s defense has been solid enough against both offensive facets, but you also have to figure in that they’ve been beat up a bit by the better offenses they’ve faced.  Another thing to figure into the equation is that Seattle’s home field advantage is one of the best in the NFL because of the crowd noise that draws false starts.

Seahawks’ Offense vs. Eagles’ Defense:

Seattle wide receiver Sidney Rice (concussion) is done for the year, but this team is much healthier than their adversary.  The Seahawks haven’t run or passed the ball effectively this season and the Eagles’ defense has been playing quite a bit better than they were earlier in the season.  Seattle doesn’t score points if they can’t run the ball, and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to overpower Philadelphia in that department.

Eagles vs. Seahawks Predictions:

Having Young at quarterback makes for a different look for the Eagles as they turn into more a ball control offense.  That, in turn, helps their defense because of the additional rest the guys on that side of the ball receive.  Look for the Eagles to have more big plays while pinning Seattle back when they are forced to give up the ball.  I think Philadelphia is the better team here and they’ll do enough to get the victory.  My predictions are calling for a bet on the Eagles, as well as one on the under.
