NFL Predictions: Giants vs. Saints Preview

Giants Saints NFL

Here are our NFL predictions for tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Giants and the Saints.

The New York Giants (6-4) hit the road to take on the New Orleans Saints (7-3) in the Monday Night Football game, and our preview of the matchup will try to figure out what to expect.  The Giants vs. Saints game has a start time of 8:30 PM ET and can be seen live on the ESPN channel.  New York is 3-2 on the road this season, while the Saints are a perfect 4-0 when playing in New Orleans.

These two teams last met up in 2009 when the Saints won 48-27 in New Orleans as 3.5-point favorites.  New Orleans was a 30-7 road winner against the Giants as 3-point underdogs in 2006 and they’ve covered the point spread against New York in 3 of the last 4 head-to-head meetings.  The under has been a winner in 2 of the 3 games played between these teams since 2005.  The NFL odds at Legends Sportsbook for Monday Night Football show the Saints favored by 8 on the spread with the total set at 51 points.

Giants’ Offense vs. Saints’ Defense:

New York’s inability to run the ball has really held the offense back, but quarterback Eli Manning (2952 yards, 61.2%, 18 TD, 9 INT) has done a good job of carrying the offense on his back.  The Giants average 22.8 points per game this season but could see an increase tonight since the Saints allow 121.5 rushing yards per game with an average run of 5.2 yards.  New Orleans has played quite a few weak offenses this year and I can see the Giants putting some points on the scoreboard.

Saints’ Offense vs. Giants’ Defense:

New Orleans scores 31.3 points per game and they can beat opposing offenses with both the run and the pass.  Quarterback Drew Brees (3326 yards, 70.9%, 23 TD, 11 INT) has again been one of the best at his position in the NFL, but he has tried to force the ball into tight spots a bit too much at times this year.  The Saints average 39.8 points per game when playing at home and the comfort level they feel at the Louisiana Superdome gives them a huge advantage.  The Giants have been pretty good defensively this year, but I think New Orleans has too many playmakers to be held back much.

Giants vs. Saints Predictions:

It is nearly impossible to beat the Saints in New Orleans, but I feel that New York can use their running game to make this one close.  Ultimately I’m not confident in the Giants winning outright, but feel they will be able to cover the point spread while sending the game over the total.  This one should have some big plays, and in the end the Saints will find a way to get it done.
