NFL Predictions: Jets vs. Bills Preview

Sunday’s NFL game between the Jets and the Bills will be the subject of our predictions.

The New York Jets (4-3) and the Buffalo Bills (5-2) have a game scheduled for Sunday, and we hope that our predictions on the final score can help some people win money this weekend.  Start time of the Jets vs. Bills game is set for 1:00 PM ET, and Buffalo is currently a 2.5-point home favorite with a total of 45 at Legends Sportsbook.

These AFC East rivals meet up at least twice every year and the Jets have won outright in 5 of the last 6.  New York easily won 38-7 as 1-point favorites at home last year, and they won nearly as easily with a 38-14 win in Buffalo earlier in the season.  The Bills have lost 3 straight against the Jets in Buffalo, and the favorite in this head-to-head series has covered the point spread in just 3 of the last 11 meetings.

New York comes in with an abysmal 0-3 record on the road this year and will be looking to snap out of their travel funk.  The Jets have defeated the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and San Diego Chargers at home this year, but have lost against the Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots.

Buffalo, meanwhile, is a perfect 4-0 at home with wins over the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Oakland Raiders at Ralph Wilson Stadium.  The Bills have also beaten the Kansas City Chiefs this year while losing against the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals.  Buffalo’s games this year have gone over the betting total all but once, while the Jets have gone over in 4 of their last 5.

The Jets haven’t always been a consistent running team this season, but it appears they are starting to pick it up after averaging 121.0 yards on the ground over the course of their last 3 games.  New York needs that balance to be successful on offense, and they should be able to do just that against a Buffalo defense that is allowing 4.9 yards per carry this season.  The Jets are averaging 27.5 points per game when either outrushing the opposition or being outrushed by less than 20 yards.

The Bills have a great balance on offense with averages of 239.6 passing and 140.6 rushing yards per game.  Buffalo averages 30.1 points each time out and they will be going up against a New York defense that has been a big disappointment this year.  The Jets have not successfully stopped either facet of opposing offenses and are allowing 21.7 points per game on the year.  That total swells to 32.7 when New York is on the road, so it is feasible that the Bills will score some points if the Jets don’t correct their problems in a hurry.

Predictions in the Jets vs. Bills game call for the contest to be a close one that will come down to the wire.  I think New York is a stronger team than they have shown so far, and Buffalo has been lucky that their turnovers haven’t been converted into as many points as they probably should have been.  Look for the Jets to kick a last second field goal to steal a road win.
