NFL Preseason Preview: Cardinals vs. Packers Game Predictions

Cardinals vs. Packers

Final score predictions are ready in our preview of the NFL preseason game between the Cardinals and the Packers.

The Green Bay Packers and the Arizona Cardinals are set to meet up in this 8:00 PM ET game tonight and our final score predictions will help make sense of the week 2 NFL preseason clash.  Online sportsbooks have the Cardinals vs. Packers odds favoring Green Bay at -5 with a total of 38 points.  The Packers are at home on Lambeau Field for this NFC clash and close to 60% of tracked NFL bettors are choosing Green Bay to cover the point spread.

The Arizona Cardinals opened up their NFL preseason schedule with a 24-18 victory the Oakland Raiders that saw the backup quarterback trio of John Skelton, Richard Bartel, and Max Hall all outplay new starter Kevin Kolb.  Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt has a poor 6-11 record in the preseason but he’ll have to give Kolb and the starters extended playing time today to get everyone ready for the regular season.  The Cardinals are also working on new defensive schemes but ultimately the Packers should be able to put up some 1st quarter points against this overmatched unit.

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy has a 9-12 record in the preseason but is 4-1 in the 2nd week.  He really focuses on the 2nd and 3rd games to get his team ready and I expect to see Aaron Rodgers for a bit longer than we saw him in the Packers’ 17-27 week 1 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns.  Backing up Rodgers will be Graham Harrell and Matt Flynn, both of whom played decently in the latter stages of the opening week loss.

What we know about the Cardinals vs. Packers game is that both teams will leave their starters in longer, Arizona will likely be trying a little harder since they have things to improve on both sides of the ball, and that Green Bay is likely to have the lead after the 1st quarter.  Although I’d expect a much stronger effort out of the Packers then we saw in their last game, ultimately the Cardinals have more reason to play hard.  They’ll open up the playbook while the Packers should keep it fairly vanilla in the 2nd half, and that will ultimately lead to the Cardinals keeping it close as the total goes over the number.

Cardinals vs. Packers Final Score Predictions:

Cardinals 20

Packers 23

NFL Preseason Betting Record: 3-2
