UFC Fight Night 25 Predictions:
Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger
Shields is a tremendous submission wrestler but he’s been rocked bad in numerous fights and doesn’t have much in the way of striking. Ellenberger is an excellent wrestler himself and his heavy hands will have Shields in trouble if he can avoid the takedown. I’ll call for the upset as Ellenberger’s massive power overwhelms his opponent by TKO in the 1st round.
Court McGee vs. Dongi Yang
Yang is an aggressive fighter with power and Judo skills, but his reckless style leaves him open against skilled fighters. McGree has wrestling skills and sneaky submissions, and I feel he’ll eventually catch his careless opponent with a takedown before transitioning into a 2nd round submission. Although I’m making my UFC Fight Night 25 predictions on McGee, he could very well take some damage before eliciting the tap.
Erik Koch vs. Jonathan Brookins
Brookins is an excellent wrestler but his striking skills leave him in a bit of danger with the fight standing. Koch is a lanky fighter with knockout power and a great triangle choke which are great counters to anything Brookins can do. Although Koch possesses the skills to end the fight in a seconds notice, Brookins is tough as nails and I’ll call for him to bring a strong game plan into the fight and come out with a unanimous decision thanks to his wrestling.
Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald
Belcher has strong kickboxing skills and nice takedown defense, while MacDonald has a great submission game but isn’t nearly as strong with his striking or wrestling. Ring rust needs to be figured into the equation since Belcher has been out for over a year, but ultimately MacDonald doesn’t have enough of a defense to the strikes that will be hurled his way. I’m thinking that Belcher wins the first round before getting the TKO win after knocking MacDonald down once or twice in the second.
Evan Dunham vs. Shamar Bailey
Bailey is a controlling wrestler but has not shown very much beyond those skills in his fighting career. Dunham is a very good wrestler himself but also brings strong submissions and technical striking into UFC Fight Night 25. Look for Dunham to get the 2nd round submission and we’ll use our predictions on a rear-naked choke.
