UFC on FX Predictions:

Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller

Guillard has a ton of raw potential, but he just can’t seem to get the mental game figured out to eliminate the mistakes he seems to make to lose every few fights.  He has excellent wrestling, knockout power in striking, and the type of athleticism that many fighters dream of, but he just seems to find ways to lose.  Miller is tough as nails, has strong technique no matter where the fight goes, and his wrestling and submission game will have Guillard in trouble if this one hits the ground.  Guillard can end many fighters with one punch but I don’t believe he’ll be able to crack Miller’s iron chin, and my predictions have the small favorite tapping out his opponent in the very first round.

Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer

Ludwig has some excellent striking, and his takedown defense is steadily improving.  The problem for Ludwig is that he hasn’t always showed one-punch knockout power, and he seems unlikely to damage a guy like Neer that can absorb a shot with the best of them.  Neer is great at nothing but he’s good at everything, and I have to believe he’ll be able to wade through the strikes to put Ludwig on his butt when he feels the need.  Look for Neer to get the 3rd round TKO victory via ground and pound over his scrappy but overmatched opponent.

Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft

Barry is a former K-1 kick boxer with an excellent striking game, but he has looked like a fish out of water when the fight hits the ground.  Morecraft is definitely the more capable ground fighter, but his wrestling hasn’t been strong enough to get the fight to the mat in recent bouts.  Both guys have knockout power, but Barry has to have the edge if this stays standing.  Look for Morecraft to fail on some takedown attempts before taking some heavy shots that lead to the finish in the 2nd round.
