Wednesday MLB Best Bet: Brewers vs. Diamondbacks

Milwaukee Brewers

Wednesday’s MLB best bet between the Brewers and Diamondbacks should be an easy winner.

The Milwaukee Brewers (52-46) are visiting the Arizona Diamondbacks (52-45) tonight and this clash is a perfect one for our MLB best bet.  Online sportsbooks have the Diamondbacks as the -117 betting favorites despite the fact that the Brewers have won 7 of the last 8 head-to-head meetings in Arizona.  Milwaukee left fielder Ryan Braun is listed as probable after playing 5 innings on Tuesday and should see his playing time increase in this 9:40 PM ET game.

Although the Brewers have been a strong team this season, their 19-32 road record and .232 average away from home leave much to be desired.  Milwaukee will be going against left-hander Joe Saunders (6-8, 1.36 WHIP, 3.89 ERA) tonight and the streaky starter has a 2.50 ERA over his last 18.0 innings pitched.  The Brewers only hit .239 against south paws on the season, but they took Saunders for 6 earned runs over 5.2 innings during the 2010 season.   This matchup comes down to whether Milwaukee’s poor road hitting will be able to take advantage of Saunders’ inability to limit home runs.

Another lefty, Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson (6-6, 1.45 WHIP, 4.74 ERA), gets the nod for the Brewers.  Narveson has been a bit shaky lately but will be squaring off against an Arizona squad that has batted just .238 against lefties this year.  Arizona has hit just .217 over their last 10 games and has managed just 5 earned runs over the 14.2 innings they’ve seen against Narveson over his career.  The Diamondbacks’ starter does a better job at keeping the ball in the park, and that is fairly important here considering the small confines of Chase Field.

Milwaukee’s bullpen does scare me a little bit but I have to believe the visiting squad is the easy bet here.  The Brewers are hitting better, have the power hitters to take advantage of the stadium, are facing a pitcher that they’ve mauled in the past, and have a starter that has shown he’s capable of limiting the opposing offense.  All signs point to the Brewers here and I’m making this a larger bet as Milwaukee looks to win their 8th out of 9 in Arizona.
